According to statements made by WhatsApp, users whose smartphones run on Android 2.3.7 and iOS 8 operating systems will no longer be able to create a new account or confirm existing accounts from February 1, 2020.

“Due to the fact that we do not plan to update these operating systems, some functions may stop working on them at any time,” the developers said in the release.

That’s not all. The system running Windows, namely Windows Mobile, Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile will no longer be compatible with WhatsApp from December 31, 2019.

In order to continue using WhatsApp, users will need to purchase a newer device: developers advise to opt for a smartphone equipped with at least Android 4.0.3 or iPhone under iOS 9.
